'Green Footprint' initiative by DEWA |
|
In line with the Green Economy for Sustainable Development initiative announced by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai which aims to promote sustainable development, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has commenced the implementation of the “Green Footprint” initiative.
This is part of DEWA’s strategy to reduce carbon emissions and minimise its negative effects on the environment, as well as promote the conservation of natural resources. The initiative also aims to promote the concept of rational consumption of energy and water, set the guidelines for the optimal use of energy and water, and educate the public about the best practices they can adopt to rationalise consumption for a sustainable environment, and to reduce the carbon footprint.
DEWA will add a Green Footprint indicator on the right side of the customers’ monthly bills to educate them about the concept of “Green Footprint”, which will contain information about the carbon emissions emitted due to consumption of electricity and water, to raise awareness on rational use of energy and water, as part of DEWA’s strategy to achieve the vision of Dubai in reducing electricity consumption by 30% by 2030, thus reducing carbon emissions.
“In line with the strategy of Dubai to reduce global warming and find sustainable solutions for the production and consumption of energy, we work to promote the rationalisation of electricity consumption to reduce carbon emissions that negatively affects the environment. We also work to set the foundations of sustainability by organising a number of initiatives to achieve sustainable development, and strengthen Dubai’s position as a global destination in the field of sustainable energy, and saving the environment. The “Green Footprint” is an important initiative to inform and educate our customers about the importance of rational consumption, and preserve the environment to ensure a better future for generations to come,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
“DEWA adopts a plan aiming to reduce the impacts of producing and consuming energy and water, which represents a big challenge at both national and international levels due to on-going increase in demand for electricity and water,” said Waleed Salman, EVP – Strategy and Business Development.
DEWA continuously encourages customers to rationalise consumption in various ways, including promoting the use of eco-friendly products currently available in the market, such as energy efficient light bulbs, and other appliances that contribute to reducing the consumption of electricity and carbon emissions, and protecting the environment.
